DÉLUGE, CHASSELAS

DÉLUGE

A first vintage that bears a name that lives up to the extreme conditions that marked the vintage. But fortunately...

The vintage
2021

An annus horribilis for the vine, the 2021 vintage was characterized by temperatures below seasonal norms, little sunshine, and torrential rainfall from spring onward. While the vines budded within the norms in early April, it was not until mid-June that flowering began, in very humid conditions conducive to the development of fungal diseases. Under constant pressure from mildew, vegetative development slowed during the summer. Saved by constant work and hot, dry weather from mid-August onward, the harvest was literally carried out berry by berry, but nevertheless in good conditions.

From darkness sometimes light springs forth

Our first vintage was characterized by extreme weather conditions marked by episodes of frost, hail, and increased pressure from fungal diseases. A cruel ordeal that saved only the most vigorous plants and the best grapes, resulting in a qualitative result that transcends the vintage.

At extreme vintage,
extreme works

The 2021 vintage was absolutely extreme in the sense that, in the memory of winegrowers, few growing cycles have experienced such a difficult series of conditions as this one.

So, translating this vintage into artistic form, drawing its shape and capturing its sound naturally pushed us to explore a palette of colors and sounds that are cold, powerful and dramatic at the same time, but always tinged with a glimmer of hope and vitality, like the luminous and energetic wine that comes from it.

From the work
to the label

Two original paintings were created by the collective in its entirety, combining different painting techniques and unconventional instruments (brushes, rackets, whips, and boxing gloves). From these two paintings, we created a complex mosaic to produce as many photos as there are bottles, so that each label is completely unique.

The music

What followed was an original musical composition in the form of an ode tinged with powerful metal and organic ornaments. A sound that is both massive and melodious, violent and sensitive, to express this very special vintage with all its power and nuance. A song composed, arranged, and performed by the collective, then recorded and enhanced by Vladimir Cochet of the Conatus studio.
